The Outer Banks of Love, part 2

Yesterday, in part 1, I gave the background story on “The Outer Banks of Love” the fourth track on my new Jamendo album, handmade. Today I’ll talk a bit about the composition itself.

This song was recorded over two days:  November 28 and 29, 2006.  Yes, this song was recorded right after my first album, evolution, came out on Jamendo.

“The Outer Banks of Love” has a bit of a bluesy feel to it, which makes sense, given the theme.  The main bass riff is in Am7; the keys are incredibly restrained, playing spacey “So What” style chords throughout, but supporting, never dominating.  This song is all about the guitar work and the play between the bass riff and the congas.  If you listen close to the congas, you can hear the highest drum — pure improvisation throughout, usually only two to four hits but in a jazzy pattern.
