Focus.
Finally, I’m getting there. Today I finished a fourth song, and have a fifth nearly ready as well. There are two others waiting in the wings. Here’s a sort of sneak preview of my third Jamendo album, La vie sous la mer, as it stands now.
| order | time | code | title (tentative!) |
| 1 | 07:10 | S05A | The Mermaid Wife (La vie sous la mer) |
| 2 | 09:00 | S03 | The Strange Lady I Met on the Shore |
| 3 | 07:37 | C | Hypothermia / The Illusion of Warmth |
| 4 | 06:10 | S06A | Werewolf |
| 5 | 04:06 | B2 | The Mermaid Wife (folk version, 150 years later) |
That’s 34 minutes of music, so far. Unlike my previous efforts, this album tells a story. More or less. I don’t sing, and I’m probably going to keep the lyrics to myself this time, except for the title track. So everyone can make up their own story, I suppose.
A big change is the length of the songs. Previously, I played the “radio friendly” game, and cut my work down from its original concept. But when I look back, two of my favorite tunes are the longest ones — Missing You (Song for Hannah) and The Burning, both from evolution. They had time to grow and develop.
Of course, with the way my life has been going, I’m really pointing the traditional rude gesture in the direction of the Fates by mentioning this. Any stream of good luck must flow to an ocean of tears. (OK, that line escaped from one of my songs — it happens.)
Hey, in other news — it’s 12:34 pm and I’m still awake. Six months ago that was impossible. I guess we’re not in the Kali Yuga Express Lane after all. (And there, a title just escaped. Time to go, while I still have some surprises left!)
