The Grand Unified Theory

I guess this is where I stalk up to the blackboard, write the equation (a + b^n) / n = x, and say “That’s my grand unified theory.  Any questions?”  But no, I’m not talking Physics.  I’m talking music.

Today is the day I started posting all my Jamendo tunes to DMusic as well.  I began with track #1 from evolution, “Tattered and Torn.”  If you look it up, you’ll see I posted some additional information as well.  For one, the original article I wrote about the song.  For another . . . .

I think this is where I admit to being an honorary Minbari.  Minbari always tell the truth.  But Minbari never tell the whole truth.  All along, a lot of these tunes have had lyrics.  It’s how I keep the melody in memory (I learned it from studying Chet Baker records).  Most of the time, the lyrics are nonsense.  Occasionally, though, they’re just over the top in some way.

In the case of “Tattered and Torn”, well, if you really want to know, I admitted to the lyrics in my DMusic posting.  If you click the little question mark next to the track, it will show the information window–that’s where the lyrics are hiding.

My new album, La vie sous la mer, is coming out this month.  I’m actually writing a book about it.  A small one.  Not War and Peace, more like one of those “companion” guides to a movie.  Why?

Well, for the past four months, part of me lived in the world of La vie sous la mer.  The songs are stories, and the stories are interlinked.

Complicated, because there aren’t any actual lyrics on the album—it’s instrumental. You could listen and enjoy it with no problem, but for people who want to know more . . . I’m providing the book.

After I finished the album, I didn’t want this world to die. I spent too much time there to leave it behind cold.  All those hidden things . . . they’re coming out.

Speaking of which, I need to get back to writing.

À bientôt.
